Environment

For an interesting fictional read on the environment, I would highly recommend Michael Crichton's new book State of Fear. As always, Crichton pours a unbelievable amount of subject matter research into this entertaining story about environmentalists run a muck. The premise of the story surrounds global warming, which according to Crichton (and countless scientific articles he cites) doesn't even exist. It's actually quite frightening how much Crichton's story line mirrors some of the actual environmental disasters the world has been experiencing lately (tsunami's, mud-slides, blizzards, etc.). Despite an avid recycling program at home, I'm really not what one might consider an environmentalist and this book doesn't go a long way to making me one; however, it does provide an interesting contrast to the more highly publicized view the we are rapidly destroying the planet.
